*Progress made on Brussels I Regulation...*

"The Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper II) today approved as an "I" item, a general approach on the outstanding issues in relation to the proposal for a recast of Regulation 44/2001 (the so-called Brussels I Regulation).

Brussels I is the cornerstone of judicial cooperation in civil matters and aims at facilitating the recognition and enforcement of judgments throughout the Union. Continuing on from the successful work of the Polish and the Danish Presidency, which led to the approval by the Council (Justice and Home Affairs) of a general approach in June, the Cyprus Presidency has completed the negotiations on the outstanding issues at Council level.

Following on from the approval today by Coreper of a general approach on outstanding issues, the European Parliament is expected to adopt its position at first reading in the autumn.
The adoption of the Regulation by the Council can then be expected to take place before the end of the Cyprus Presidency. » 18.07.2012
