Bref Aperçu : Visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the OECD*

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the OECD on 19 February as part of the Organisation’s Leaders’ Programme. Chancellor Merkel had a bilateral meeting with Secretary-General Angel Gurría to discuss the collaboration between the German Government and the OECD.

"On the occasion of her visit, the OECD Secretary-General launched the report "Germany - Keeping the edge: Competitiveness for inclusive growth" (also available in German), which sets out key policy priorities to boost competiveness, productivity growth and social inclusion in Germany.

The Chancellor also delivered a keynote address to OECD Ambassadors, special invitees and OECD staff on her vision on international co-operation, the European Union and the role of Germany in promoting a stronger, cleaner and fairer world economy.

In his introductory remarks, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría praised Chancellor Angela Merkel for being a “steady, guiding force throughout the crisis”. “Her effective and decisive leadership is strongly acknowledged, as is her pivotal role in steering Germany, and Europe, to calmer waters,” he said (Read the full speech)."
