The 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place on 6-18 November in Sharm El-Sheikh, World leaders will gather to negotiate the next steps in global climate action and the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This session will look at the stakes of the next UNFCCC climate summit with the purpose of identifying current bottlenecks and discern the communication dynamics behind global climate negotiations, both in terms of wording compromises of climate agreements and the challenges it implies for public understanding. Are global climate negotiations just a vain battle of words? How do climate conclusions and in particular agreed terms actually affect climate action on the ground? How to ensure public accountability and overcome the lack of public understanding of global climate negotiations? These are some of the questions that will be raised during this session as to guide us through a discussion with experts in global climate summits.

Reversing global warming by mitigating and adapting to the impact climate change is having worldwide requires a drastic and massive social and economic transformation across the planet. The active engagement of all political, economic and social actors is needed to transform to sustainable modes of economic development and lifestyles in both developed and developing countries. How do we move from awareness raising to actual engagement? What communication techniques, strategies and campaigns have proofed to be effective in behavioural change and in boosting citizens, public authorities and businesses engagement in climate action? This session will provide concrete examples of communication campaigns, hands-on techniques and approaches that have succeeded in effectively boosting citizens, business or public authorities' engagement in delivering climate action.

Communicating Climate Action
This year's EuroPCom was an opportunity the occasion to convey EU's political messaging ahead of the COP27 (Sharm el-Sheikh, 6-18 November 2022) and to discuss communication techniques on how to engage citizens in climate action.

"The big difference compared to 20 years ago, is that you can now easily see the effects of climate change, it is visible. The clock is ticking you can hear it" Jean-Pascal Van Ypersele, Climatologist / UCLouvain.

"Climate is not only an environmental problem but also a health, social, economic and political problem. It is not too late, it is time to act now!" Véronique Siquet, GoodPlanet Belgium.
