Since 2012 when the European Citizens’ Initiative was first launched, over 9 million citizens across all 28 EU countries have engaged with EU policy-making! The tool empowers citizens to participate directly in the EU’s democratic process by having their own say on policies which affect their lives. You could be next!
Get your ideas off the ground
A successful citizens’ initiative will prompt the European Commission to propose legislation on your chosen subject or cause, but only if it achieves backing from at least 1 million EU citizens from a minimum of seven different EU countries.
Get your voice heard
To prompt an effective response, a citizens’ initiative should relate to any policy area where the European Commission has the power to propose legislation. Check out the full list of these to get you thinking about issues you are passionate about.
